Oral Hygiene
As a part of your comprehensive dental examination, the dentist will assess your gums and may advise a hygiene appointment.
Periodontal Treatment
Periodontal disease is a disease that affects the gums, the roots of the teeth and the bone that encases the roots of the teeth.
Oral Surgery
Sometimes the removal of a tooth is a necessary part of oral rehabilitation.
Root Canal Treatment
Teeth are made up of a crown (the white bit that we can see in the mouth) and the root(s). Within the root(s) of the teeth, there are canals, these contain the nerve and blood supply of the teeth – known as the pulp. Different teeth have different numbers of roots and thus canals.
Tooth Replacement
Here at the mews, utilising the latest technology ensures there are multiple options available to replace missing teeth.
Fillings & Crowns
Crowns are ideal for decayed or broken teeth where a filling may no longer be possible or advised. They can help improve the appearance and strength of the tooth.
Airflow
Airflow effectively but gently removes stubborn stains from teeth caused by frequent consumption of food and drink such as coffee, red wine, tea and spicy foods.
General Dentistry FAQ
How often should I visit the dentist in Guildford?
You should aim to visit The Mews Practice in Guildford every 6 to 12 months. Your dentist will let you know how often they would like to see you, and this will depend upon how healthy your teeth are. If you’re worried, you can book an appointment to see us for a check-up at any time.
It can be tempting to avoid the dentist if everything feels fine, but many dental and oral diseases are silent so you may not realise you have a problem. Regular monitoring of your teeth ensures your oral health is maintained as well as flagging up possible issues early enough so that they can be treated quickly.
How can I prevent cavities forming?
To prevent cavities forming and the need for fillings, you should brush your teeth at least twice a day. You should spend between 2 and 3 minutes brushing your teeth. Flossing will help to prevent cavities as this is the only way to prevent bacteria forming between your teeth.
Limit the amount of sugar that you have every day and be mindful of the less obvious foods that contain sugar such as fruit. Raisins for example can stick to your teeth. If you can’t brush your teeth after eating sweet things, try rinsing your mouth with water.
Don’t forget to visit your dentist and hygienist at The Mews Practice in Guildford regularly who can help you in your fight against cavities.
What is fluoride and how does it help my oral health?
Fluoride is a mineral that is found in water and is in certain foods such as canned fish, spinach, apples and skimmed milk. Fluoride is important to your dental health as it helps make your tooth enamel more resistant to acid attacks from bacteria in your mouth. A lack of fluoride can lead to a great risk of dental decay.
