Removal of a tooth maybe necessary as part of oral rehabilitation. Whether through extensive breakdown, decay, inappropriate positioning or infection, if it is no longer viable to save the tooth it may be necessary to remove it.
You will be numbed up prior to treatment to allow the tooth to be removed painlessly. Once the problematic tooth is gone, there are numerous different options available for you and your dentist to restore the space if desired.
Oral Surgery FAQ
Is there anything I should and shouldn’t do after oral surgery?
You should use a gauze pad to stop any bleeding. Rinse your mouth in warm salty water the day after your oral surgery to keep the area clean and get rid of any blood in your mouth. Try eating soft foods like soup, yoghurt and mashed potatoes in the day or two after your oral surgery. Reduce any swelling with an ice pack. Try to rest immediately after your oral surgery. Do not exercise for 24 hours after surgery and don’t lift anything heavy for a few days. Avoid hot food and hot drinks for the first few hours.
How long does it take to recover from a tooth extraction?
Whilst it is different for every patient, most people should be feeling completely back to normal within 7 to 10 days of having a tooth extracted.
How painful is it to have a tooth extracted?
You should not experience any pain during the actual extraction because the area will be numbed using a local anaesthetic. Once the anaesthetic begins to wear off, you may experience some soreness or some swelling. You can manage the pain using paracetamol and swilling your mouth in warm salty water.

"Thank you so much for your amazing registration check up. I came back and told my family what a treat they were in for in a couple of weeks. I was super impressed with the whole experience and I'm a nervous patient when it comes to being in the dentist chair. I didn't even think about most of the procedure because your calm and positive explanations were perfect and your team were brilliant too."
